"Who's My Legislator" Help

The Who’s My Legislator application helps residents determine who represents them in the Virginia House of Delegates, Senate of Virginia, U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate. This service is provided by the House and Senate Clerk’s Offices of the Virginia General Assembly and therefore provides only limited contact information about Congress and the U.S. Senate.

NOTE:

Due to recent Federal Court decisions, citizens voting in the 2019 primaries and General Election may be represented in a different House district from their current representation. In those instances, both the current and new district are reflected on the results page.

Using the Application

Citizens can determine the state and federal legislators that represent them by either searching using their home address or by navigating the map.

Information provided

After searching for a respective address, contact information on the state and federal legislators that currently represent this address will be displayed. In addition, links to each legislator’s official website is provided so that citizens can learn more about the persons representing them. There is also a view district boundaries link to show the outline of the Virginia House, Virginia Senate and U.S. Congressional districts in which they live.

Impact of elections, court cases and Proximity alerts

Due to recent Federal Court decisions, citizens voting in the 2019 primaries and General Election may be represented in a different House district from their current representation. In those instances, the House district information will contain a tab for current representation and "As of 1/08/2020" information. Click on the tab headers to see the change.

For addresses that are very close to district boundaries, current mapping technology and data may not overlay perfectly with the 2010 Census blocks. In these cases, a "Proximity alert" is placed on the district result information. To ensure completely accurate information, a citizen may send their address to the WhosMy Administrator, WhosMyAdmin@virginiacapitol.gov, to request clarification/confirmation.

Newly elected officials are not reflected on the representative information until close to the date they are sworn into office. Typically, for November elections, the newly-elected official information is updated in January.
